The Nigerian Army says it has captured one of the top commanders of the Islamist militant group Boko Haram on Wednesday.
According to the army spokesperson, Sani Usman, one of the group leaders, Bulama Modu and 43 others were captured in an operation that resulted in the destruction of 2 "terrorist camps" at Janguo-riri and Bulatori in north-eastern Nigeria.
The army says Modu is a member of the highest decision-making body in Boko Haram.
The troops also rescued 241 women and children during the operation.
Weapons were also confiscated.
Boko Haram, which seeks to establish a state with its strict interpretation of Islamic law, has killed an estimated 14, 000 people since 2009.
